When you build an estimate with AI, you can hand it photos of the space along with your written description. Eano reads the photos once, up front, and keeps what it saw in mind for the rest of the conversation — the questions it asks you and the scope of work it writes at the end.
There are two ways in: the + button in the message box, or the question Eano asks after your first message if you didn’t attach anything. You can add up to six images per estimate, and photos are always optional — a written description on its own still works fine.
Why This Is Useful
“Guest bathroom remodel, 45 sq ft” tells the AI what kind of job it is. A photo of that bathroom tells it what you’re actually walking into: the tile that’s already there, the water stain under the window, the vanity that’s older than it looks, the shower boxed in on three sides.
That’s the difference between a generic scope and one that reflects the job in front of you. It also cuts down the back-and-forth, because Eano stops asking about things it can already see. And once the estimate is in, the same photos are saved to the project, where your client can look at them too.
How to Add Photos with Your Description
1. Open the project or opportunity and go to the Scope tab.
2. Click the Generate Estimate with AI card and stay on the Generate with AI tab.
3. Click the + button at the top of the message box and pick your photos. You can select several at once. A thumbnail appears for each one — hover a thumbnail and click the trash icon to drop it.
4. Type your description underneath, then send it.
You’ll see Analyzing photos… for a few seconds while Eano reads them, then the conversation carries on as usual. Your photos sit above your message so you can see exactly what you sent.
If You Didn’t Attach Any
Send a description with no photos and Eano asks once whether you’d like to add some: “Adding photos can help me better understand the scope. Would you like to upload any images?”
Choose 👍 Yes, upload photos and a drop zone opens inside the question. Drag photos onto it, or click browse files to pick them, then click Continue.
If you’d rather move on, choose ➡️ Skip for now and click Continue. Eano only asks this once per estimate, so the question won’t come back — but the + button stays in the message box if you change your mind later in the conversation.
What Photos Are Good For
Eano looks for the things that change a scope or a price:
Existing materials and finishes — flooring, counters, cabinetry, tile, fixtures, siding, roofing
Condition and damage — water stains, rot, cracks, corrosion, wear
Fixtures and equipment already in place, and roughly how old they look
Details that are visible in the frame — framing, exposed plumbing or electrical, window and door counts
Anything that shifts the job — tight access, code problems, materials from an era worth testing
It deliberately won’t guess at dimensions or square footage from a picture. If a size matters to the estimate, put it in your description. If you want quantities measured off drawings, that’s Takeoff Concierge, which is a separate flow.
Where the Photos End Up
Nothing is saved to the project while you’re still in the conversation. Photos you upload and then remove, or an estimate you abandon partway through, leave nothing behind.
When you click Insert to Scope, the photos are saved to the project’s All Files under External Files — the client-visible side — where they appear in both Project Resource and Sub-project Photos.
A Few Things Worth Knowing
Six images per estimate, counted across the whole conversation. If you pick more, Eano keeps the first six and shows a grey note reading “You can upload up to 6 images”. That’s information, not an error — the ones that fit went through fine.
Images only. Photos and screenshots, not PDFs or documents. Drop something that isn’t an image and you’ll see “Only image files can be uploaded”. To pull line items out of an estimate you already have as a document, use Upload an Existing Project or Template instead.
They’re read once. Eano analyzes the batch when you send it and reuses that reading for every question and for the final scope, so you don’t wait on it again later in the conversation.
If the reading fails, the estimate doesn’t. You’ll see “Photo analysis failed — you can still describe the work in text” and the conversation keeps going on your description alone.
Photos belong to the estimate session. Start Over clears them along with everything else, and you’d upload again.
This is the Standard estimate mode, on the Generate with AI tab. There’s no photo step on Paste Your Scope or in Advanced mode.
Web and desktop only. The AI chat in the Eano Pro mobile app takes typed and spoken descriptions, not photos, so build a photo-based estimate on a computer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add photos partway through the conversation?
Yes. The + button stays in the message box for as long as you’re still typing free-text replies, and anything you add there counts toward the same six.
Do I have to write anything if I have photos?
No — you can send photos on their own and Eano will take it from there. You’ll get a better result if you also say what you want done, though. The photos describe what’s there, not what you’re planning to change.
Will the photos be measured?
No. Eano describes what it can see and won’t invent dimensions or square footage. For measured quantities off a plan set, use Takeoff Concierge.
Will my client see them?
Yes, once you insert the scope — they land on the client-visible side of the project’s files. If you’d rather they didn’t, remove them from All Files after inserting.
Can I use photos straight off my iPhone?
Yes, including HEIC files. Depending on the browser, the small thumbnail may come up blank even though the photo uploaded and was read normally.
Does adding photos cost extra?
No. It’s part of building an estimate with AI.
