Asking Eano to Do It for You: Ask AI

J
Written by Joseph Kibe

There are two kinds of “help” inside Eano Pro, and it saves a lot of time to know which one you’re talking to.

If you want to understand how something works, like what a status means, where a setting lives, or how billing is handled, that’s the help chat: the round bubble at the bottom-right of the screen.

If you want something done, like building an estimate, creating an opportunity, adding a task, or pulling the line items out of a PDF, that’s Ask AI, Eano’s built-in AI assistant. (You may also hear it called Concierge.) It doesn’t explain the steps to you. It takes them, and shows you the result to approve before anything is saved.

The short version: click Ask AI at the top of the left-hand navigation, on any page, and tell it what you want.

Opening Ask AI

There are a few ways in, and they all open the same chat window:

  • The Ask AI button at the top of the left-hand navigation. It’s there on every page.

  • The Ask AI button on a project, right next to the Project ID at the top of any project or opportunity. This one opens the chat already focused on that job.

  • The box on your Dashboard that asks What can I do for you? Type there and a new chat starts.

  • The search bar along the top of the screen. Type anything, then pick Start a chat about this to hand it straight to Ask AI.

The window floats over whatever you were doing. The button beside the close × lets you switch it between Floating, Sidebar, and Fullscreen, and Eano remembers which one you like.

One Chat, Pointed at a Job

Every chat is either general or working on one specific job.

A general chat knows about your whole account: every project and opportunity you have access to. Use it to look things up across jobs, get an overview, and create new work.

A chat that’s working on a job is the one that can actually change that job: its scope, its tasks, its project details. You can tell which job it’s on from the Working on: line just above the message box, which shows the job’s name and number.

You don’t have to set this up yourself:

  • Open the chat from a project’s Ask AI button, or start a New chat while you’re on a project, and it’s working on that job.

  • Ask a general chat to change one specific job and it will ask whether to switch, with a Work on… card offering New chat or Continue here.

Once a chat is working on a job, it stays on that job. If you want to work on a different one, start a new chat from that project.

Your Conversations

Click the chat’s title at the top of the window to see your recent conversations. Each one shows the job it’s working on, if any, and how long ago you last used it. Pick one to pick up where you left off, or click New chat to start fresh. Starting a new chat doesn’t throw the old one away.

To remove a conversation, hover over it in that list, click the trash icon, and confirm with Delete. There’s no undo.

Conversations you haven’t touched in three days are cleared automatically, so if something matters, act on it rather than leaving it parked.

What It Can Actually Do

From any chat:

  • Answer questions across all your jobs: which are biggest, what’s in a particular scope, what a client’s details are, where a project stands.

  • Create a new opportunity or project. Only a name is strictly required; you can fill in the address, client, and description as you go.

  • Take a document you upload and start a job from it.

  • Update a job’s name, address, description, or client name.

From a chat that’s working on a job:

  • Build an estimate from a conversation. It works like a walkthrough with a good estimator: it plays back what it understood, asks the handful of questions that actually move the price, then produces priced line items.

  • Read an estimate, spreadsheet, or contract you upload and turn it into scope lines.

  • Run an AI Takeoff from plan PDFs.

  • Add, edit, move, and delete scope items, and set up selection groups.

  • Create, schedule, assign, complete, and delete tasks, including generating a task list from the scope.

  • Tell you whether a change order is possible, list the ones you have, and draft the wording for a new one. Creating the change order itself is still yours to do on the Scope tab.

Every change waits for you. Anything that writes to your account comes back as a card summarizing exactly what it’s about to do, and nothing is saved until you approve it.

Where to Start

If you’d rather not type at all, a new chat offers a few shortcuts:

  • A general chat: Create an opportunity, Create a project, Start from a document, Overview of my projects.

  • A job with an empty scope: AI Takeoff from plans, Generate AI estimate, Upload document to scope, Create a task.

  • A job with line items: Update the estimate, Add items from a document, Create a task, Update project info.

  • A project that’s already started (scope locked): Prepare a change order, Summarize the scope, Create a task, Update project info.

Ask AI or the Help Chat?

Both are chat boxes and both are friendly, so it’s easy to end up in the wrong one. The dividing line is simple: the help chat explains, Ask AI does.

Ask the help chat (the bubble at the bottom-right) when your question is about how Eano works: what “Payment Processing” means, whether archiving deletes anything, how to connect QuickBooks, what a plan costs, how to reach a human. It’s genuinely good at that, and it can hand you off to a person on our team when you need one.

Ask Ask AI when your sentence starts with a verb aimed at your own account: create, add, update, build me, estimate, import, run a takeoff on. The help chat can’t reach into your account to do any of that, but Ask AI can, and it’s a good deal faster than being talked through the clicks.

A quick translation:

  • “How do I create a task?” → either works, but Ask AI will just create it with you.

  • “Create a task to order tile by Friday and assign it to Marco.” → Ask AI.

  • “Why is my milestone showing 0%?” → the help chat.

  • “Write me an estimate for a 200 square foot deck.” → Ask AI.

  • “Change the address on the Delgado job to 14 Oak Street.” → Ask AI.

  • “What does the Takeoff add-on cost?” → the help chat.

A Few Things Worth Knowing

Nothing is saved without your approval. Every change comes back as a card you accept or decline first. You’re never one typo away from a rewritten scope.

It’s on the web app. Ask AI lives in Eano Pro on a computer. The Eano Pro mobile app has its own AI features for building estimates on the go, but this chat isn’t one of them.

Not everyone sees it. Field workers and subcontractors don’t get Ask AI.

Treat the output as a strong first draft. It’s very good at getting you from a blank page to something real. It isn’t a substitute for your judgement on price, so read what it produces before you send it to a client.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Eano’s chat actually create a project for me? Yes. Click Ask AI at the top of the left-hand navigation and say what you want to create. It’ll ask for the details it needs and show you a card to approve before the job is created.

Where did Concierge go? It’s the same assistant, now opened from the Ask AI button at the top of the left-hand navigation. The shortcuts that used to sit beside it, like New Opportunity and New Project, are under Quick Add in the bar along the top of the screen.

I asked the help chat to build me an estimate and it just explained how. Why? The help bubble at the bottom-right is a guide, not a set of hands, and it can’t reach into your account. For an estimate written into a job, open the project, click the Ask AI button beside the Project ID, and ask there. It’ll interview you about the work and produce priced line items.

Can it edit my scope? Yes, in a chat that’s working on that job. Open the project, click Ask AI, and describe the change: “drop the tile allowance to $12 a square foot”, “move the demo lines into their own section”. It proposes the edit and you approve it.

It’s still talking about the last project I had open. Ask AI reopens your most recent conversation, and that conversation stays on the job it started with. Click the pencil icon at the top of the window for a New chat. If you’re on a different project, the new chat works on that one.

Can it assign a task to someone? Yes. Name the person and it’ll match them against your team rather than guessing.

What’s the difference between Ask AI and Takeoff Concierge? Different things. Ask AI is the chat assistant described here. Takeoff Concierge is the paid add-on that measures quantities off your uploaded plans, and you can start one from Ask AI by asking for a takeoff and attaching your plans.

It said it wasn’t sure where something lives. That’s deliberate. It would rather tell you it doesn’t know than invent a menu path. When it does that, take the question to the help chat at the bottom-right, which is built on our help center and can pass you to a person.

Can I use it on the free trial? Yes. Ask AI isn’t limited to a plan. AI Takeoff is the one piece with its own add-on pricing, and your first takeoff is free.
