Building out a scope of work is one of the most important — and most tedious — parts of winning a job. A big scope can run to hundreds of line items, and every conversation with a client, architect, or subcontractor sends you back in to add, cut, or rework rows one at a time.
Magic Edit is a faster way to make those changes. Instead of hunting through the scope by hand, you just describe what you want in plain English — “add prices to all the unpriced items,” “delete everything related to the back patio,” “break out the rough plumbing into individual items” — and Eano proposes the exact changes for you to review. You see a clean preview of what would change, tick the ones you want, and apply them in one go.
Think of it as a helper who already knows your whole scope. You tell it the goal; it does the scrolling, the guessing, and the busywork, then hands you a tidy list of proposed edits to approve.
What You Can Ask It to Do
Magic Edit reads your entire scope plus the key project details — the address, client, project name, your description, and internal notes — so it can make changes that fit the job. A few things it’s good at:
Fill in missing prices. “Add estimated prices for all the unpriced rows.” It uses the rest of your scope for context.
Flesh out a vague line. Turn a single “Rough plumbing” row into a proposed set of individual rough-plumbing items.
Remove a whole area of work. “The client dropped the back patio — delete all the related items,” even when they’re scattered throughout the scope.
Tidy and reorganize. Rename groups, group loose items together, or split a line into its own section.
These are just examples — you can describe the change however it makes sense to you.
Using Magic Edit on the Web
Open your project or opportunity and go to the Scope tab.
Click Magic Edit in the toolbar (the button with the little wand). A panel slides in above your scope.
In the box, describe the change you want — for example, “add prices to all unpriced items.” You can keep it short.
Click Preview →. Eano reads your scope and comes back with a proposed set of changes.
Review the preview (see below), then click Save to Scope to apply the ones you’ve selected — or Reset to clear it and try a different instruction.
Once you save, the proposed changes are written into your scope and the panel clears, ready for your next instruction. When you’re done, click Cancel to close the panel and get your vertical space back.
Reading the Preview
The preview shows you exactly what would change before anything touches your real scope — so you don’t have to scroll a giant scope hunting for edits or worry about missing one.
New rows and sections appear in green, tagged New group or New section where relevant.
Deletions appear in red with a Deleted tag.
Edits to an existing row are highlighted so the specific change stands out, with the columns you’d expect — Cost Type, Quantity, Unit, Unit Cost, Markup, and Total.
Every proposed change has a checkbox, and they all start checked. Untick anything you don’t want, or use the select-all control at the top. Only the checked changes get applied when you hit Save to Scope.
If a change turns a line into a group header, you’ll see it as the old line being removed and a brand-new group being added — that’s expected.
Using Magic Edit on Mobile
Magic Edit works in the Eano Pro app too:
Open the project and go to its scope.
Tap Magic Edit in the scope menu.
In the sheet that opens, describe the change (there’s a paste button if you’ve got the text elsewhere), then tap Preview.
Review the proposed changes — same green-add / red-delete / highlighted-edit preview, with all the columns — and accept to apply them or cancel to back out.
A Few Things Worth Knowing
There’s no undo. Once you save changes to your scope, they’re applied. You can always run Magic Edit again — or edit a row by hand — to walk something back, but there’s no one-click undo for now.
It’s a one-shot helper. Each preview is a fresh request; Magic Edit doesn’t remember your last instruction. To make several changes, just run it a few times in a row — preview, save, preview again.
You review everything first. Nothing changes until you check the boxes and hit Save to Scope. If a proposal isn’t quite right, reset and reword your instruction, or apply what’s good and fix the rest by hand.
It’s for the editing stage. Magic Edit is available while your scope is still open for editing. Once you’ve started the project (which locks the scope), you’ll make changes through a change order instead. It’s also available to the same team members who can edit the scope.
Clearer instructions get better results. If you type something vague or off-topic, Eano will ask you to “provide clearer instructions” rather than guess. A specific ask — naming the rows, the area, or the change — works best.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will it overwrite my scope without warning? No. Magic Edit only ever shows you a preview first. Your scope doesn’t change until you select the changes you want and click Save to Scope.
Can I apply just some of the suggested changes? Yes. Every proposed change has its own checkbox, all checked by default. Untick the ones you don’t want before saving. You can also apply everything and then delete a row or two by hand.
I got a message saying it couldn’t compute a change. What happened? That means Eano couldn’t turn your request into a clean set of edits — sometimes the instruction was unclear, sometimes something hiccuped on our end. Just try again, or reword what you’re asking for. If it keeps happening, reach out and we’ll take a look.
Does it change prices I’ve already set? Only if you ask it to. If you say “add prices to the unpriced items,” it leaves your existing prices alone. Always check the preview to confirm before saving.
Why don’t I see the Magic Edit button? It shows up on the Scope tab while your scope is still editable. If your project has already been started (so the scope is locked), you’ll use change orders instead. If you think you should see it and don’t, contact us and we’ll help.
